Here’s a rundown of the week:

Sat., Mar. 7: Helicopter Day

  • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm: Helicopters on the Ramp (Weather Permitting) – Explore a variety of visiting  helicopters on the ramp and get an up-close look at these incredible rotary-wing aircraft.
  • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm: Toddler Helicopter Play – Let your little aviators explore with helicopter-themed toys and books designed just for toddlers.
  • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm: STEMonstration – Make a Helicopter!- Create paper and paper cup helicopters while exploring the Four Forces of Flight in an exciting STEAM activity.
  • 10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Public Flight Bay Simulators – Take the captain’s seat and experience the adventure of flight on our state-of-the-art flight simulators.
  • 10:30 am – 1:30 pm: Sikorsky S-76A++(PHI) Helicopter Tour– Get inside the Sikorsky helicopter and experience its remarkable design firsthand.
  • 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm: Helicopter Hangar Talk – Learn the amazing history and functionality of a Helicopter from one of our highly knowledgeable volunteer.
  • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Show Me the Mooney – Step into the role of a pilot as you perform a pre-flight check on our Mooney Ovation airplane and enjoy an up-close look at a real aircraft.

Sun., Mar. 8

  • 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Public Flight Bay Simulators – Take the captain’s seat and experience the adventure of flight on our state-of-the-art flight simulators.
  • 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Paper Airplane Tables- Put your engineering skills to the test and make your own paper airplane. If you’re looking for a challenge, join in our paper airplane contest from 1 pm – 3 pm.
  • 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Make and Take! Pilot Hat – Take home a pilot hat kit to continue the aviation adventure long after your visit
  • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Show Me the Mooney – Step into the role of a pilot as you perform a pre-flight check on our Mooney Ovation airplane and enjoy an up-close look at a real aircraft.
  • 2:30 am – 3:30 pm: STEMonstration – Space Coding – Test your coding skills with our Space Coding Rover and guide mini rovers on their mission

Mon., Mar. 9

  • 9:30 am – 3:00 pm: Plane Fun Pilot Day Camp – Spend the day immersed in aviation excitement with hands-on activities, STEM challenges, and high-flying fun designed for future pilots. Registration Required.
  • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm: Show Me the Mooney – Step into the role of a pilot as you perform a pre-flight check on our Mooney Ovation airplane and enjoy an up-close look at a real aircraft.
  • 10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Public Flight Bay Simulators – Take the captain’s seat and experience the adventure of flight on our state-of-the-art flight simulators.
  • 10:00 am – 5:00 pm: Roving Picture Frame (Photo Ops) – Capture the moment with our oversized LSFM picture frame and snap a photo with your favorite plane.
  • 10:30 am – 12:30 pm: Early Learning Aviation Adventures – Spark curiosity with hands-on early learning aviation toys and exploration activities designed for young learners.
  • 10:30 am – 2:30 pm: Boy Scouts of America Search & Rescue Workshop – Learn the fundamentals of search and rescue operations through interactive, aviation-inspired challenges. Registration Required.
  • 10:30 am – 2:30 pm: STEMonstration – Button Making – Join our Female Aviator Scavenger Hunt and create your own Fifinella button to celebrate aviation history.
  • 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm: WASP Living History Interpretation Presentation – Enjoy a captivating third-person portrayal honoring the courageous Women Airforce Service Pilots and their legacy.
  • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Step Inside the CCT (Crew Compartment Trainer)– Step inside our historic Crew Compartment Trainer in our Space Gallery and explore a unique piece of aviation history.

Tues., Mar. 10

  • 9:00 am – 10:00 am: TINY: Aviation Playtime – Join us for structured aviation play designed especially for toddlers, filled with discovery and imagination. Registration required.
  • 9:30 am – 3:00 pm: Girls in Aviation Wings of Courage Day Camp – Explore the world of aviation through empowering, hands-on experiences that inspire the next generation of female aviators. Registration Required.
  • 10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Public Flight Bay Simulators – Take the captain’s seat and experience the adventure of flight on our state-of-the-art flight simulators.
  • 10:30 am – 2:30 pm: Girl Scouts Robotics (2-Day Camp!) – Discover robotics, coding, and aviation technology in this exciting two-day STEM experience. Registration Required.
  • 10:30 am – 11:00 am: Fly High Storytime – Enjoy aviation-themed stories, songs, and interactive fun for our youngest guests.
  • 11:00 am – 3:00 pm: STEMonstration – Wind Tunnel – Discover the power of lift and drag as you test different paper designs in our interactive wind tunnel.
  • 11:00 am – 3:00 pm: DC-3 Plane Tour – Get an exclusive peek inside our historic DC-3 aircraft and explore its timeless design.
  • 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm: DC-3 Hangar Talk – Learn about the rich history and lasting legacy of the iconic DC-3 during this engaging presentation from our highly knowledgeable docents.
  • 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Show Me the Mooney – Step into the role of a pilot as you perform a pre-flight check on our Mooney Ovation airplane and enjoy an up-close look at a real aircraft.

Wed., Mar. 11

  • 9:30 am – 3:00 pm: Wild Weather Day Camp – Dive into the science of weather with hands-on experiments and aviation-inspired exploration. Registration Required.
  • 10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Public Flight Bay Simulators – Take the captain’s seat and experience the adventure of flight on our state-of-the-art flight simulators.
  • 10:30 am – 2:30 pm: Girl Scouts Robotics (2-Day Camp!) – Continue exploring robotics and aviation innovation in this dynamic STEM camp. Registration Required.
  • 10:30 am – 12:30 pm: Toddler Dress Up – Dress up and explore exciting aviation careers through imaginative, hands-on play.
  • 11:00 am – 2:00 pm: STEMonstration – Cloud & Tornados – Create a cloud in a jar and test tornado tubes while discovering the science behind wild weather.
  • 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm: LEGO STEM Challenge – Build creative LEGO® designs or tackle one of our aviation-inspired challenge cards in this hands-on engineering activity.

  • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm: Early Learning Aviation Adventures – Encourage curiosity and discovery with aviation-themed early learning toys and activities.
  • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm: NASA Rover Tours – Peek inside a NASA-inspired rover and imagine the possibilities of space exploration.

  • 9:30 am – 3:00 pm: Crafty Aircrafter Day Camp – Combine creativity and engineering in this hands-on camp celebrating aviation innovation. Registration Required.
  • 10:00 am – 1:00 pm: Howard 250 Plane Tour – Climb inside and tour the interior of our historic Howard 250 and discover its unique story.
  • 10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Public Flight Bay Simulators – Take the captain’s seat and experience the adventure of flight on our state-of-the-art flight simulators.
  • 10:30 am – 11:00 am: Fly High Storytime – Gather for aviation tales, music, and interactive fun designed for our youngest aviators.

  • 10:30 am – 2:30 pm: Boy Scouts of America Chemistry Workshop – Explore chemistry concepts through engaging, hands-on experiments. Registration Required.
  • 10:30 am – 2:30 pm: STEMonstration – Pi Day Challenge – Take on our Pie in the Sky target drop challenge and build a “Pi” plane to test its flight skills.
  • 11:30 am – 12:30 pm: WINGS Speaker Series – Hear from Lieutenant Colonel Brittney R. Abuhamra Chief of Safety for the 147th Attack Wing and HQ Commander at Ellington Field, TX, as she shares insights and experiences from the world of flight.
  • 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm: Plane of the Month Hangar Talk – Join our docents for an up-close look at the museum’s featured aircraft, the Yakovlev (Yak-52), and discover fascinating facts.
  • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Drone Demonstration – Watch drones in action and see how modern pilots take flight through cutting-edge technology.
  • 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Show Me the Mooney – Step into the role of a pilot as you perform a pre-flight check on our Mooney Ovation airplane and enjoy an up-close look at a real aircraft.

Sun., Mar. 15

  • 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Make & Take Shamrock Paper Helicopters – Create your own shamrock-themed paper helicopter and see how far your lucky design will soar.
  • 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Shamrock Hunt – Search for hidden shamrocks throughout the museum and win a festive prize.
