Professional Development for Teachers

Lone Star Flight Museum is a pre-approved continuing professional education (CPE) provider for the State of Texas.

PD sessions focus on bringing the STEM fundamentals and career opportunities of aviation to your classroom.

In Partnership with Team NASA, the Aerospace Externship Program led by Joyce Abbey.

The Aerospace Teacher Externship is an initiative of Team NASA, a collaboration of aerospace contractor and community representatives working in partnership with NASA Johnson Space Center. Team NASA promotes outreach in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education to help increase interest and awareness in technical careers.

Intent

  • To provide opportunities for educators to participate for a one-week period in business and/or industry related to space exploration.
  • To form connections between educational curriculum and industry skills needed for a 21st century knowledge-based economy.
  • To connect education skills with what is happening in the workplace and to clarify for teachers the vast number of options available to students.

Teachers get the chance to practice or observe current technology, view the myriad possibilities within a diverse range of career fields, and learn what new skills, knowledge, and further education are necessary for the careers in the aerospace industry.
