Born in Mesa, Arizona, Barry grew up in El Paso, Texas. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University where was involved in research in the field of structural mechanics for two federal agencies.
In 1976, he left Texas A&M to attend the University of Texas School of Law, and was associate editor of the Texas Law Review.
After graduation, Barry joined the Houston office of Vinson & Elkins, where he was a partner in the Business, Real Estate, and Energy Group. He left Vinson & Elkins to join EOG Resources, Inc. as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. While at EOG he served on EOG’s Executive Committee. Barry retired from EOG in 2007.
Mr. Hunsaker has served on the boards of the Houston Public Library and the Houston Child Guidance Center, on the Board of Visitors of MD Anderson Cancer Center, on the Administrative Board of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, and as treasurer of the Texas gubernatorial campaign of former Houston Mayor Bill White. Barry was co-chair for Phase I of LSFM’s capital campaign, which achieved its goal of $25 million.
