MAJOR GENERAL JOE H. ENGLE (1932 – 2024)
The board of directors, staff and volunteers of the Lone Star Flight Museum are saddened to hear of the passing of Major General Joe H. Engle. Inducted into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame in 2023, Mr. Engle was only person to pilot both the X-15 and the Space Shuttle (STS-2, STS-51I). He flew 185 different aircraft logging more than 15,000 flight hours including more than 9,000 in jets and over 225 hours in space.
General Engle was a wonderful and kind gentleman. He was often seen strolling through the museum with his lovely wife Jeanie. He will be dearly missed and we send our condolences to his family.
