Alexis Martinez

Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Southwest Airlines

Alexis Martinez is an Aircraft Maintenance Technician at Southwest Airlines, with an extensive career in aviation. Her journey began just two weeks after high school when she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During her service at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, she worked as an Aerospace Ground Equipment mechanic, maintaining ground equipment for several fighter aircraft, including the F-15 Eagle, F-16 Falcon, A-10 Warthog, and F-22 Raptor. One of her most memorable experiences was flying in the F-15 Eagle.

After completing four years of active duty, Alexis returned to Dallas, Texas, where she joined the Texas Air National Guard. There, she maintained ground equipment for the C-130 Hercules at the Joint Reserve Base Carswell and spent three months on deployment at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

In 2007, Alexis pursued her Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance. While attending school, she was hired by Southwest Airlines as an Appearance Technician, allowing her to participate in the company’s Mechanic Apprenticeship Program. She completed the program in 2015, which included two years of hands-on training.

Since then, Alexis has worked on a wide range of maintenance tasks for Southwest’s Boeing 737s, from overnight checks to more extensive repairs in the maintenance hangar. Her work spans nearly every part of the aircraft, from the passenger cabin to the wings, engines, and even inside the fuel tanks. With years of experience and a passion for aviation, Alexis continues to play a critical role in ensuring the safety and functionality of Southwest Airlines’ fleet.
