Mooney Plane for ALC Arrives!

The new Aviation Learning Center (ALC) will be the cornerstone of the educational program in the new Lone Star Flight Museum.

The ALC features three physical spaces accessed by a group of students in sequence: (1) an interactive learning laboratory which includes 12 workstations and an operational wind tunnel (2) a hangar featuring a Mooney aircraft with operational computer displays, and a flight planning office, and (3) a simulation bay with 10 airplane simulators which allow the students to practice everything they have just learned. The ALC is designed to inspire and educate students in grades 5-12 through learning basic aviation concepts such as the principles of flight, aircraft aerodynamics and design, weather, instrument flight and navigation.

Students will experience the world of pilots and navigators – by going through ground school, planning and preparing a real Mooney 20R Ovation for flight and flying their flight plan in Redbird’s flight simulators.  The ALC experience allows students to apply their academics to real-life situations, understand the importance of education in realizing their future dreams, and to have fun!

Texas-based Mooney International Inc., headquartered in Kerrville, TX, has generously donated the aircraft for the Center’s Hangar.

The ALC curriculum will be aligned with Texas academic standards to assist educators in their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) project based curriculum.
