Miyokan-Gurevich MiG-17
Join us in welcoming the October Plane of the Month, the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17, known to NATO as the “Fresco.” This 1963 aircraft is one of only 10 LIM-6 variants built in Poland and is the second to last ever produced.
More than rare, this jet is truly unique. Unlike earlier MiG models, the MiG-17 was equipped with an afterburner and developed as an upgrade to the MiG-15, which flew during the Korean conflict. It faced off against American pilots and earned a reputation as a worthy adversary.
Fun fact: The cockpit is labeled in English, Russian, Polish, and Chinese, making it a global flyer like no other.
